Why was this trip to Budapest different?

Every trip to the same city is different. Sighisoara 2007 was different than Sighisoara 2000 or 2001. Likewise, Budapest 2011 was totally different than Budapest 2007 or 2008. And, to be very honest, it was also very very very AMAZING!

It is known that the person(s) you choose to spend the vacation with can make or break a vacation. And traveling with my fiance only meant one thing: it was romantic, fun and relaxing.

I can say that I love three cities: Sighisoara, London and Budapest. Each for its unique reasons. But for Budapest I hold a “different love”. It’s like the love for a very dear friend, who I cannot live without.

Also, this year we decided to go where we haven’t been before (ok, Alex has been to some places, but I haven’t). So we were walking “off the map”, following trails in the woods and wondering why we huff and puff all the way up to Elisabeth Lookout Tower.

I’ve said before that Budapest is a romantic city. The views of Danube and Pest from the Citadella; the superb views of Buda from the Elisabeth Lookout Tower and the lovely scenic ride on Children’s Railway create a romantic setting for a honeymoon, an anniversary or even just a weekend away.

Staying in a tent added a bit of “wild” to this , otherwise, romantic vacation. Last time I stayed in a tent was in August 2002. However, I loved it. I am not fussy and don’t need 4-star hotel rooms. I can do very well in a tent or in a private hostel room. As long as I have my privacy (read: I can sleep naked and no one besides Alex sees me) I’m ok with it.
