When it comes to New Year’s celebrations, we like both big and small cities. Sometimes I want to spend time on the streets, looking at the fireworks, other times I just want to relax with my better half and enjoy a low key New Year’s. And then there are times when we want to just dance Argentine Tango the entire night.

No matter what you have in mind for the upcoming New Year, let’s look at some exciting cities together.

Paris, France

The capital of France, Paris, knows how to party. The unfortunate series of attacks in France in the past two years isn’t scaring travelers away, which is great. And the city is planning to put a stunning display this year, as well.

Aside from ringing in the New Year in the street, you can also choose among a lot of other ideas, such a as going to a restaurant or choosing a cruise. Just make sure to book as far in advance as you can.

The city is one of the most popular for New Year’s celebrations in Europe. If you want to see the fireworks, find a good place along the banks of Thames, with a good view of London Eye. Please note that many areas for viewing the fireworks charge a ticket, so plan ahead. Bonus for London is the New Year’s Day parade, so try not to stay too late.

If you like a milder climate, then Porto is the perfect choice for you. There are many street parties but the most famous one is in front of Porto City Hall.

If you want, you can also choose one of the many restaurants or to take a river cruise on Douro River.

Show up in front of the City Hall for a colorful party and fireworks. This is where one of the Christmas Markets also takes place, so don’t worry, there’s a lot to eat and drink.

While it can get really , really cold in Budapest in winter, the experience of spending New Year’s Eve in the street is worth it. Go to Chain Bridge, since the traffic closes in the hours leading to the celebration. Then watch for fireworks. In some years , the city will organize stunning ones, but in others you can only see them popping on either side of the Danube , as the private parties start their own displays. A lot of concerns take place in many squares, so just choose your favorite.

You can also opt to go to one of those private parties or take a cruise on Danube.

Bucharest, Romania

Another city which is downright frigid during New Year’s, Bucharest is becoming one of the best places to party in Eastern Europe. For street celebrations, choose one of the square. There will be concerts and fireworks.

Other options include finding a restaurant in the Old Town to ring in the New Year during a private party.
