How to get to

We arrived in Bratislava by train so from the Main Train Station (Hlavna Stanica) we walked. Before leaving home I did a google search and made e print-screen of the walking route. I also got a map from the tourist information center in the train station (the guy who talked to me was useless though; he insisted that we should take the bus because it’s far away; aka about 20 min walk , which excuse me, it’s NOT far away).

The hostel is located on a pedestrian street and there are trams on the street and buses / trolley buses going along a major artery very close to the pedestrian street.

Unless you have a lot of luggage, you can easily walk to the hostel following the major boulevard all the way to the Royal Palace and then cross the street and the first to the left is the pedestrian street (this would be the longest way to get to the hostel on foot).

The room

The owners are nice and they live on site; once we got there the room was presented, together with the drawback of having the window above the pub – which is apparently better than facing the pedestrian street. We loved the room from the beginning and I was a sucker for the electric kettle (hey, I am addicted to coffee, remember?)

The room had: double bed (two singles united but it was ok), electric kettle and dishes, bathroom ensuite (with shower cabin), hangers, TV with English channels, free wi-fi (it worked most of the time), cupboards.

According to the website, the hostel offers singles, doubles, triples and quads.

Our experience

The website lists the price per night as 30euros for a double; via Hostelbookers (how we booked) we paid in total 120 euros / 3 nights (so 40euros per night). It is worth investigating if you can book directly on their website. Also HostelBookers stated the hostel didn’t offer towels – so we packed our own – but we did get towels and bed sheets.

The good

• electric kettle, along with dishes so we could eat in the room. The fridge and microwave were on the corridor
• ensuite large bathrooms
• large room with decent bed
• location: we could walk absolutely everywhere
• we were completely independent once we got the keys

The bad

• living on a pedestrian street has the drawback of having to deal with the noise (mostly of the tourists)
• the pub , also in the same courtyard as the hostel, closed at midnight. We usually go to back around 10ish at home. Oh and our window was directly above the pub
• fellow drunk guests who decided to come back to the hostel making a hack of a noise at 4 a.m. The owner didn’t do anything to calm them down
• out of 3 nights we only slept decent during the last one

We were in Bratislava for our wedding anniversary and we really hoped we could enjoy our intimacy…well, not so much. That window facing the pub and the neighbors being way too close to us definitely made us rethink that strategy. I am used to having some good meters between my bedroom window and my neighbor’s .

Otherwise, the hostel is great even for a romantic escape (maybe others don’t mind the lack of intimacy). I do recommend it for couples and mostly for someone going on a city break.

The owners had no idea I would be writing a review. I did present them my business card (from work) but only when we checked out.
