Best Places to Take Selfies in Budapest, Hungary

Selfies…love or hate them, we all take them. Whether they make it on our social media channels – or blogs- is another story. But some cities are so beautiful that it’s a shame to take a selfie and not share it with the world.

Such a city is Budapest and we’ve taken (way too) many selfies here during our travels here.

In this article, I am highlighting only some of the many awesome places to take selfies in Budapest. The photos were taken during our most recent trip, in May 2018.

And by the way: how do you call couple selfies?

Budapest Eye in Elisabeth Square

Yes, Budapest has a ferries wheel. And we’ve been on it once. It is also a nice background for a selfie, don’t you think?

St. Stephen’s Basilica

St. Stephen’s Basilica is the largest church in Budapest and it offers amazing views from the viewing platform. It is also incredibly beautiful from outside.

In case you ask, the photo is taken at the corner of the large square in front of the church…so that we could fit the church in the photo. Ah, first world problems!

Playful Fountain in Liberty Square

I’ll let you discover why it’s playful (hint: visit during the season).

Parliament Building

Yes, such a cliché. The Parliament building in Budapest is one of the most beautiful in Europe although the tour rather sucks . But, you must take a selfie in front and attempt to fit it in.

Or just walk on Danube’s bank and take a selfie with just a bit of the Parliament peaking in it. The rest belongs to the Danube.

Chain Bridge

…from as many angles as you can possibly think. Of course, you must take a photo before crossing it.

But you can also take a photo from one of the Danube banks.

Anywhere in Szentendre

Szentendre is really charming and looks good in photos. Almost anywhere you stop offers lovely views. This selfie is taken in one of the squares.

Aquincum

Roman ruins in Budapest require a selfie. Enough said.

Budapest by night

Budapest is very, very, very charming by night. We attempted quite a lot of selfies during our evenings out. Too bad I looked like a ghost in some of them.

On Margaret Bridge, the views towards the Parliament are gorgeous.

And on Margaret Island, the dancing fountain offers a lovely background for a selfie.

The Great Market Hall

Because it looks gorgeous and I love to buy paprika each time I visit.

Liberty Bridge

Who said only Chain Bridge was gorgeous? Liberty Bridge has its own charm, so it deserves a place on this list.
Don’t forget to take the photo on the bridge – we almost forgot!

And of course, from Gellert Hill towards the bridge!

Gellert Hill

As you climb up to the Citadel there are plenty of lookouts where you can stop to take photos. Because once you get to the Citadel, it’s usually so crowded that you’ll give up taking selfies quite fast.

Statue of Queen Elisabeth (Sisi)

Sisi loved Budapest. And the city honors her with quite a lot of statues. This is just one of them.

Fishermen’s Bastion

Because it’s gorgeous and everyone takes photos…either on the steps leading to it or of the panorama towards Pest. We took a selfie on the stairs but the angle is different.

Matthias Church

A stone’s throw away from the Fishermen’s Bastion stands Matthias Church. Gorgeous outside, kind of disappointing inside. When we visited it inside in 2011, the tower was not yet open to the public.

Stairs from Buda Castle to the Buda side of the city

Yes, finally, a photo with stairs. And had to wait a bit to have them for ourselves but during the peak season, it would be much harder to take this selfie.

Keleti Train Station

Yes, the photo was taken during a different trip (March 2017). But I forgot to take one this time. The façade is gorgeous. Too bad they don’t really bother renovating the entire building.

This time we didn’t visit Heroes’ Square, Vajdahunyad Castle, or the City Park. All three are worth your time and do offer some interesting angles for selfies. Before you ask, I have checked the selfies we’ve taken in the area during the Nov 2017 trip and hated every single one of them.
