How to get to

From Westbahnholf, take U6 in direction Florisdorf and get off at Alser Strasse. Cross to the left, cross straight ahead, make a left and walk past the first street. The second to the right is Geblergasse. Walk until you see no.21 on the left hand side of the street.

The Breakfast

Buffet breakfast, 5 euros / pax

Served between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.

The coffee is very very very weak. Better get a coffee from the lobby for 1.90 euros (single espresso).

Otherwise, good selection of food for vegetarians, as well.

The room

Large, clean, warm. Quite big bathrooms ensuite. Good beds (but not a double, just two singles united). TV with exactly TWO English channels. I’ve watched too many news during my stay (yes, it was on CNN pretty much most of the time we were in the hotel). No refrigerator. Why?

Internet was available via cable in the room. Hint: buy a travel router! It served us very well.

Our experience

I can safely say it was the only hotel without personality I’ve been in so far. It’s just…plain. Doesn’t make you want to remember it or jump for joy. Yes, during the week it’s cheap (34 to 39 euros / double/ night depending on the day of the week from Mon to Thu). The hotel is clean and the room warm. There is a safe you can use for free in the room – and DO use it. I’ve left my damn crunchy on the night stand and by evening it made a run for it. The brochures didn’t and everything else was in the safe.

The remote never worked. Told the reception and was never fixed. Not that you have much use for it with just two English channels, anyway.

The bathroom has towels and toiletries, so you don’t need to worry about those either. And if you need wi-fi and don’t have a travel router, there is free wi-fi in the lobby. Or three computers you can use (I advise against it, especially for checking emails, etc).

The hotel is close to the center. Tram 43 (from Alser Strasse near the metro stop) takes you to University metro stop (or Ring) after 5 stops and it’s the best way to get to the city center. From there you can either walk or take train 1 or 2 on the Ring.

I strongly suggest to get Vienna card. It will pay off even if you only use it for the transportation. One day we went from the hotel to Danube Tower and then to Schonbrunn, so pretty much from one end of the city to another, changing 1 tram and 3 metro lines meantime.

I can recommend the hotel for budget travelers (but not over the weekend). I will not recommend it for romantic escape. The atmosphere will crush any romantic idea you have.

I chose it for the price, bathroom ensuite and location. And those are the big pluses.
