How to get to

From the train station take tram 1N to Magazinul Crisul II. Then you need to walk for 12 min (about 1km).

There are several options to get from the airport to the hotel but the most direct is via bus 23 from Oradea Shopping City to Horea stop. But you’d be doing quite a bit of walking. Else, you can take ca taxi or ask the hotel for transfer options.

The hotel

Astoria Gran Hotel is a 4-stars hotel located right near the National Theatre in Oradea, Romania. It’s right in the city center. There is public transportation to/from the train station and the airport. There’s 24h front desk and free parking in front of the hotel. The a la carte restaurant caters to every taste.

The hotel offers standard double rooms, twin rooms, double rooms with balcony, suites, and single rooms. All rooms come with private bathroom, flat-screen TV (with cable), free wi-fi, toiletries, air conditioning / heating, and hairdryer.
The room

The Standard Double room comes with air conditioning / hearing, private bathroom, flat screen TV (and cable), free wi-fi, minibar, safety deposit box, phone, hairdryer, sitting area, slippers, towels, linen, and toiletries.

Our experience

We were offered the option to book the hotel when we joined a tango event in Oradea. So yes, we did pay a special price. However, we returned to the hotel in 2023 and we booked a reduced rate online. The walk-in price for the double room is 70 eur per night.

The first time we stayed at the hotel, we arrived past 11 pm so the restaurant was closed. Luckily our travel companions brought some snacks. So, lesson learned and advice to be given: if you arrive late, eat somewhere else before getting to the hotel. The restaurant closes at 11 pm and you cannot order room services anymore.

The second time, we arrived in late afternoon and the restaurant was still open. We even got a 10% discount voucher to use one time. As a vegan, I had to ask for a special meal. The sever was amazing and everything turned out ok.

The air conditioning / heating was on night mode so, for this girl, it was a bit cold at 19.9C. I’m more of a 23C kind of girl. But it was fine. I wasn’t cold at all. Watching the snow fall – in early March, sigh, we fell asleep until my smarband woke me up at 7:30 am.

We wanted to get to breakfast around 9 a.m. so we showered, packed our bags, and headed to the mezzanine. I was a bit afraid I won’t find much to eat – as I asked the front desk about vegan options and they didn’t really know if there were any – but, thankfully, I did find zacusca (eggplant paste, one of my favorite Romanian foods ). The coffee, however, was terrible. Still, all in all, the options were ok for me as a vegan and for my hubby.

The second time around, I opted for hummus, grilled veggies, tomatoes, and cucumbers at breakfast. Plus a banana.

We checked out to go to the tango classes for the day. But we returned for dinner.

Again, I wasn’t quite sure what vegan options I’ll find, but, as someone else said, “I am sure there’ll be at least grilled veggies”. First time around, I did find quinoa with veggies, hubby spotted some sweat fried potatoes, and I got a red beets salad, too. Oh and I found their awesome coffee, too!

We only stayed a night and didn’t even clock in 24h in the hotel. It was our first 4-stars experience and we loved it. It is great for couples who like intimacy and comfort. Especially if you don’t plan to stay longer than a weekend in Oradea, Hotel Grand Astoria is a great choice for your stay to be close to everything.
