Day Trip from Arad: Macea Botanical Garden

Sunday (Nov 4, 2012) we were blessed with stunning weather and we were contemplating to take a walk on the bank of the river. But someone asked on Facebook whether we want to go to Macea to visit the Botanical Garden. Neither of us visited the Garden before, so we had a very good excuse to go. In about 10 min the plans were made and in about 1 1/2 we were already on our way.

Macea is located about 23 km from Arad, a good 30-45 min drive depending on traffic. Not sure about buses or trains, but we went there by car (thanks to a friend).

The entrance fee is 2 LEI/ US$0.56 for an adult. The gardens spread over 20+ ha and we covered them in about 1h (I do think we must have missed something, but that’s a good reason to come back, right). The museum and the castle were not open – somehow I think this is true for almost every place you can visit in the county (everything seems to be closed on Sundays and everything thinks it’s normal). But the fall foliage made it an incredible experience.

I loved the peace and quiet (there weren’t too many people in the gardens) and the nice weather. We ended up on closed alleys so had to go back to crossroads but that didn’t matter. It was amazing.

The photos were taken with my phone (SE Xperia X10) and the first two are edited in Instagram.
