#DoYouIndie Local Information over Received Information

I am , again, participating in the Indie Challenge hosted by Bootsnall. Just like last year, I’d be posting an article a day, based on the question / challenge of that day.

Local Information over Received Information

QUESTION:
Tell us about an experience you had from information you got from a local.

CHALLENGE: Pretend you’re a first-time visitor to the city/country you are in. Walk up to 5 people on the street and ask them their favourite thing to do in the city (restaurant, park, place to ride bikes, etc).
Now pick one of those things and go do it!
Did you learn somewhere new? How was it asking a stranger for local information? Where did you go and what was it like? Tell us all about your experience and how local information can help you learn about a place.

Asking random people on the street is not my thing, wherever I may be. However, I do ask : friends in the cities I’m going to, the person working the front desk at the hostel / hotel, anyone who is in the lobby of that hotel / hostel when I plan to go out.

I also do research ahead of time and have a list of possible sights to visit and places to check out. I then run that list by some of the people I mentioned above.

This challenge falls on a work day so, with all the respect, it’s a bit difficult to actually do it.
