Selfie: a self-portrait photo taken with a digital camera or camera home held in hand (or with the help of a selfie stick) and which is typically shared on social media networks.

Along the years , we have taken quite a lot of selfies when we travel. We have even shared some of them on social media networks, particularly on Instagram, but this is the first article to focus only on the best places to take a selfie. And because we both love Cluj-Napoca, Romania a lot, it has the honor to be the first city featured in our series.

Union Square and St. Michael’s Church

Union Square has three big landmarks: St. Michael’s Church, the statue of Matthias Corvinus and the Roman ruins of Napoca. While the Roman ruins are still underground , protected by a glass window, the other two can be easily captured in selfies, either alone or together.

We took three selfies here, including one with a view of Eroilor (Heroes) Boulevard, one of the places I love to explore on foot and so some people watching.

National Theatre

A short walk from Union Square – on Heroes Boulevard – and you will see the National Theatre and opposite, Avram Iancu Square. We chose the first landmark for our selfie background.

If you do come here when the fountain located in the square is lit, you can take an incredible facing in front of the dancing lights.

Museum Square

There is a lovely pedestrian area close to St. Michael’s Church. It is called Museum Square and comprises a lot of photogenic places. We took the selfie in front of Matthias Corvinus House.

Pharmacy Museum

The Pharmacy Museum is located in the oldest pharmacy in Cluj Napoca. The museum was actually closed on Monday we took the selfies, so had to settle for the entrance. We have visited it before and it is absolutely amazing even for us, who don’t know much about pharmacies.

Elisabeth Bridge

What do you know? There’s a bridge in Cluj-Napoca which has love locks on it. Time for a selfie! Oh and it’s the bridge crossing the river when you come from Fortress Hill towards Central Park.

Central Park

It is our favorite place to just walk and slow down, although Cluj-Napoca is not a very agitated city, in general. There are at least three places where you can take interesting selfies: as you walk on its alleys, at the statues opposite the Old Casino, and at the lake.

Potaissa Street

The Old City still has some remains of the walls. You can find the best preserved ones on Potaissa Street. The entire area is picture-perfect and if you come here in the morning, chances are you’ll have the city to yourself, like we did.

Tailors’ Tower

We have a thing for fortresses and towers so…we had to take a selfie at the Tailors’ Tower. It looks good , doesn’t it?

Fortress Hill

And we saved the best for last. Climb on Fortress Hill (Cetatuia) for lovely views of the city. We took two selfies here, once with the city in the background and one with the cross.
