London – one of the romantic European cities?

Some time ago I wrote an article about the most romantic places in Europe. And London ended up on my list. Why? At that point, my explanation was that London would be an excellent choice for couples who want to feel somewhat anonymous in the large city, yet enjoy each other’s company.

Fast forward several years and … I’m in London with my boyfriend. Romantic? You bet!

I wasn’t exactly sure about spending money on London Eye but he surely knew how to convince me (wink wink). And the London Eye experience is romantic. Seeing the city from above is a lovely experience and there are many chances to get awesome photos. Too bad it was a bit foggy.

Walking hand in hand while going from one site to another? Yup, again, romantic. Stop for a French kiss at important sites and create as many lovely memories as you can.

A night out in the pub? Clearly a good choice for some low-key quality time together. Or, if your budget allows it, plan for an evening at a restaurant (something you wouldn’t find at home) or a night out dancing in a club.

Don’t forget about your intimacy. Making love in a totally new setting is not only romantic but also exciting. You could even buy some cheap candles if you want to. It’s the perfect time to do some experimenting in bed (role playing, for example).

London by night is superb as well. Too bad we only saw some streets close to our hotel and didn’t venture in the heart of the city at night.

Of course if you don’t have a romantic bone in yourself, you could go to the most romantic place on Earth (which would that be? A tropical island in the Caribbean?) and hate every darn second of it.

Still, I always love cities filled with history and culture. And having time to explore those, makes for a really romantic vacation.

And I definitely believe that the person you travel with can make or break a romantic vacation. If your idea of romantic is a tropical island and his is a big town – or vice-versa, things won’t go the way you hope they would.
