A leap of Faith: looking for a short-term rental in Athens, Greece

Update: Due to the fact that we know how things can get in the Balkans, we decided to plan a visit to Athens around March 2015 and decided then whether it still feels ok to try this or not. If it still feels ok, we will be seeing some apartments.

We visited Athens back in March 2012. We fell in love. And decided we should live in Athens at least for a while. Now it’s time to take a leap of faith and actually look for places to rent.

Let me tell you something: House Hunters International on Travel Channel makes this look so easy and fun …but it is not. After emailing three contacts I have in Athens and getting no answer back, I moved to Facebook and posted about this. No reply there either so started looking up websites.

So far, I found two: Expat Blog and Expatriates.com. Browsing around, I did find some rentals which look pretty damn good considering what we are looking for.

But, I do need your help. Yes, you , the one reading this. Do you have any feedback on the above mentioned websites? Do you know anyone in Athens who may help?

We are looking for:

– studio or 1 bedroom apartment
– needs to have internet (ADSL is enough)
– washing machine is good to have
– close to transportation
– quiet area if possible
– max 400 euros / month including internet and utilities

Feel free to leave a comment or email us (find email in About or ToS) should you have any hints for us.
