Something to Read: Shy Feet by Thompson, Frances M.

When Frances approached me on Facebook and asked if I wanted to read her book, Shy Feet: Short Stories Inspired by Travel , I was, of course, intrigued. And as you figured out by now, I do NOT do research on the authors or books I am offered. I believe this helps me not be influenced by reviews.

It took me exactly 2 days to finish the book. It was an easy read and I was happy to hold the e-book in my hands.

At first I had some mixed feelings about it. I won’t say I didn’t like it. That was not it. It was, however…different. Different than what I read before on the topic of travel. It’s a collection of short stories and they are fiction. I cannot write fiction but I can certainly read it. And while I had mixed feeling… I got to two stories which almost made me cry.

Each story deals with a …way of traveling. A boy talks about his first trip abroad (to France), a young woman on vacation with her boyfriend falls in love with Thailand, a terminally ill patient goes on the vacation of his life…And let’s not forget the humor. “Oh, Henry” made me laugh from the first paragraph.

I certainly recommend the book to anyone who has…never traveled. No, seriously. Read the story of the small boy. We’ll chat afterwards. As for us, travelers, this book will make you remember places. And stores linked to those places.
