My luggage for 2 full weeks away

My luggage for 2 full weeks away

… never pack more than 3 days’ worth of clothes. You won’t need so much crap unless you want to play “take photo of today’s new outfit”, which I prefer not to. Always pack your most comfortable clothes – goes without saying that it applies to the shoes, too – and never pack what you won’t wear at home. And sad to say it, but in the checked bag, pack things you don’t mind losing.

Learn to master the packing. We each do our own packing, which means we both choose what we want to bring and I leave about half of the clothes home when I actually start to pack. The over packing problem is easily solved like this.

Learning how to pack is one thing, but choosing the right luggage is quite a different story.

From the London trip I learned to not EVER drag another checked baggage with us, even if it was free. It is dead weight you need to drag around from the airport to the hotel and back.

From the Italy & Greece trip I learned that not having wheels on our carry-on’s was kind of a drag especially when we decide to walk for too many kilometers and when we had to walk a lot in the airport thanks to the location of the departure date. Not to mention, we lost those wheels because the damn things were too big to begin with so we had to do something to be able to board the EasyJet flight without penalty.

From the Vienna trip I learned that I packed way too many t-shirts and blouses. Seriously, I have no idea why I thought I’d need 5 t-shirts when I actually wore 2 of them (plus the one while I stayed in the hotel) during our 5 days stay.

So, considering our experiences, here are some ideas:

  • A backpack is easy to carry; not to mention, most (if not) all laptop backpacks fit those damns cages with room to spare; they are even good and comply with the new WizzAir rules for free carry on
  • Pay attention to the damn carry on size and use a meter to make sure it is small enough. Yes, measure the handle and the wheels. We got one which is about 3 cm shorter than the max allowed size!
  • Pack light. Seriously, you won’t need your entire wardrobe. Three days’ worth of clothes is enough.
  • If you travel by train, you aren’t (always) limited when it comes to the luggage, but please, don’t get any ideas to carry too many around. You’d easily hate yourself.
  • Invest in a good backpack for the electronics, especially if you have a DSLR camera.
